Hey Everybody!!!!
This week was a Crazy learning experience for Sister Womack and I. I have always had the question Why would anyone thats not already Mormon want to be Mormon? Well I got my answer this week when I skipped church to go sing in the Methodist church! ...Just kidding, I still went to church, I just had 2 sacraments on Sunday! For all those that have been raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or have never attended a Methodist service this will be interesting for you, I think....
2nd, All services are generally the same but they will very in doctrine and principles.
Okay, It was a dark and stormy night....
The service started with a Welcoming from an Usher then a "turn to your neighbor and get to know them time". It was almost rude if you did not participate. Then the pianist would start playing the song we were to sing. The song we sang was loud and boisterous, with very little mention of our Savior in it. Lots of energy but thats all. Then we recited what the assistant pasture said (mostly a prayer I think). A scripture was read from the New King James version of the Bible (I was soooo lost at this point). Then the head pastor introduced the topic of his talk, "Controlling our thoughts" and for the most part what he said I agreed with, he quoted the KJV Bible a couple of times and gave an analogy of checking an airplane before take off.
Then it was time for communion (sacrament). The head pastor washed his hands with hand sanitize held a fresh loaf of bread in his hands and said a very wordy prayer that we participated in. He asked that everyone keep there eyes open and watch him as he ripped the bread as a reminder of our Savior's sacrifice. Then he blessed "the cup" in the same manner.
He gave his two assistants a half loaf and two others the two cups he had blessed. We all filed to the front of the room. An usher (mostly woman) tore a piece of bread off the side of the loaf they were handed, and handed it to us. We then dipped the bread in a glass of grape juice and went back to our seats. An assistant pasture came up and said some words about the talk and we sang another song with a prayer and everyone left.
I haven't felt so aweful in a while. I couldn't really explain the feeling I had until we got back to the apartment. Then it dawned on me, that aweful feeling was the absence of the Holy Ghost. I felt physically ill not having His influence with me. Sister Womack described it like being empty spiritually. Having your very best friend leave you. As we drove home all I wanted to read was the sacrament prayers. Moroni 4 & 5:
And they did kneel down with the church, and pray to the Father in the name of Christ, saying:
O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it; that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him, and keep his commandments which he hath given them, that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.
O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee, in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of all those who drink of it, that they may do it in remembrance of the blood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they do always remember him, that they may have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.
Peace and warmth came instantly flooding back to me. I felt full and alive again! I know the answer to my long thought question: Others can feel the Spirit's presence and want it just as I did, they just have no idea where to find it. That's OUR job, let's share Peace and Love with all those around us!
I would love to hear any conversion stories or moments that have changed your perspective this last week. I'll be here same time next week if you so desire to share! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!💞
Have a Great Week!!!
Sister P out!
p.s. I love Sister Womack, she is amazing!
